A-Z Geek (Y): The Cool and the Silly

During the April A-Z Challenge, I’m posting six days a week, following the letters of the alphabet. I'm sharing all the movies, books and games I watched, read and played--all the influences that turned me into the geeky person and writer I am today.

MOVIES
Yellowbeard (1983): “Us Yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we’re dead.” I love this silly movie.

Young Guns (1988): Okay, so this might not be too geeky, but these guys made westerns cool again. I must confess, I had a mini crush on Emilio Estevez

Young Frankenstein (1974): You have to be in a silly mood to fully appreciate this movie.

What are your 'Y' books, movies or game picks?

We’re almost at the end of the challenge. Gasp, gasp, gasp! Don’t forget on Wednesday, 1st May, there is the Insecure Writers’ Support Group founded by Alex J Cavanaugh and this month it will be co-hosted by Rachna Chhabria, Mark Koopmans, and Lynda R Young (yours truly)!! Gosh, now you've stumped me. Y movies and books and games? Who invented words starting with Y anyway? I might have to go with your picks, I think. Nothing's jumping out at all.

Is that Cheech and Chong? I haven't heard of that one from them (if it is them).

Young Guns...excellent "new" western. It got away from the silly spaghetti ones and a little more real. Like "Tombstone."

"That's FRONK-en-SHTEEN!"

Whatever happened to Emilio...?

IWSG all the way. Can you truly believe we're almost over the finish line with this challenge?

Young Frankenstein!!!! Crap, I didn't even think of that one. I couldn't even think of one Y movie today. And I missed one of Brooks' best - epic Ninja fail.
Thanks for co-hosting the IWSG with me!!

I used to watch Young Frankenstein all the time at my friend's house.

One more little letter to go...

Yep, it's Cheech and Chong, but it's not a Cheech and Chong movie, if that makes sense. They have a guest spot.

It doesn't haven very often that I don't know an 80's movie.... but Yellow Beard... Can't say it rings a bell, Lynda. But I love Gene Wilder.

Young Guns!!! Yes, those boys did make westerns cool again.

remember when Emilio was married to Paula Abdul... they left me in a state of shock :) Paula was my fave in my teens :)

I love Wilder too!

Young Guns is the only western I ever liked. It might have had something to do with Emilio, though.

We Yellowbeards are even more dangerous when we are dead.

Can you believe you weren't the only person who posted on 'Young Frankenstein' today?

Yay, it's almost over! I'm exhausted. I have a post planned for the first but I think I'll add the IWSG to it.

I can't believe how fast the challenge went. Also, thanks for reminding me about IWSG. I always forget! >.<

I can't believe we're almost at the end of the challenge! Yellowbeard sounds cute.

All great movies. I can't believe we are at the end. Thank you so much for reminding me about IWSG- I totally would have forgotten, again. Thank you...thank you.

I loved Young Guns and Young Frankenstein. Haven't seen Yellowbeard.

It's kind of funny that the IWSG is coming up literally right after the challenge ends. No breaks in blogland! :)

I have yet to see Yellowbeard. But Young Guns and Young Frankenstein, both excellent movies. :D

I saw Young Guns, but it wasn't until I looked it up that I remembered that I did. I have been on your blog everyday. When I don't come here I feel like I'm missing something. What am I going to do after Z? I'm checking out your insecure writers thing though, so I'm not too distraught.

He played a few more roles in minor movies and then he turned to directing.

It went by so fast! Eek!

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

hehe, I must confess that my hubby reminded me of that one--it's one of his all time favourites ;)
Looking forward to co-hosting!!

I remember I used to watch a lot of Wilder's films on daytime television during the school holidays. I loved them. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of his best, though.

My dreams were crushed ;)

A happy surprise!

No breaks for us! But it's worth it :)

I think I'll be dropping back to posting only once a week, maybe twice on occasion. I've yet to decide what I'll be posting on... decisions, decisions...

That's always my problem, Lynda, what to post about. You have great ideas. You are correct; you need to be in a silly mood for the Young Frankenstein movie.

Barbara White Daille said...

Wow, your extensive reading and viewing lists gave you great posts for A to Z.

Can't wait to see what you come up with for Z.

I haven't seen any of the ones you mentioned. I must be 'Y' challenged. I saw "You've got mail" but it isn't a favorite. I did see the original 'Yours, Mine, and Ours' with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda which I saw on TV and enjoyed. that counts, right?

I didn't do the A to z challenge but am definitely part of the insecure writers group! Nice to hear you are co hosting it!

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

yep! That counts!
