During the April A-Z Challenge, I’m posting six days a week, following the letters of the alphabet. I will share all the movies, books and games I watched, read and played--all the influences that turned me into the geeky person and writer I am today.
MOVIES
The Fifth Element (1997).
I saw this at the cinemas with friends and had no idea what to expect. I hadn’t even known Bruce Willis was in this. Well, I completely fell in love with this movie, the different stylisation, the story, and visual effects. It’s now one of the extremely few movies I own.
TV
Firefly (2002).
The dialogue is truly brilliant and engaging. I also love the dialect they use. The characters are distinct from one another, the stories are great, and the 'world' is fabulous. I also own this series and watch it regularly.
GAMES
Farmville (2009). This silly little Facebook game was horribly addictive and replaced solitaire as a distraction of choice from my writing. I can proudly say I’ve kicked the Farmville habit.
Do you have any horrible distractions from the things you should be doing? What are some of your favourite movies or series you liked so much that you bought?
#AtoZChallenge
I kicked my Farmville habit as well. Haven't played it since 2011. Before that I was really into the game. Love Fifth Element and only saw the movie Serenity when it comes to knowing about Firefly. A very good set of choices for F Lynda.
ReplyDeleteFarmville. Are you serious? Why would you touch that monstrosity? Zynga is possible the only developer that's worse than EA. And that's saying something.
ReplyDeleteAt least you stopped though.
I avoid little addictive things like farmville, minecraft, angry birds and crack.

The fact you mentioned minecraft says a lot ;)
DeleteMy friends played farmville, but I refused to join in on their addiction.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! The Fifth Element is my pick today. And Firefly - best TV show ever.
ReplyDeleteFirefly! Yeah! That show is constantly in my DVD player.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Firefly, yipes! Hmm, think I need to get with the program!
ReplyDeleteI love Bruce Willis as an actor, however, he should've said NO to this movie. Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this one Lynda. Although, I do love sci-fi.
ReplyDeleteHehehe, fair enough.
DeleteHi, Lynda!
ReplyDeleteBruce Willis is on of my favorite actors. I enjoyed the Fifth Element. I think the best part was the lady singing! I've yet to see Firefly but I've been hearing alot about it so I will be purchasing it soon!
Internet by far is my main distraction! Chat sites, blogging! It can all be so addictive.
I really like the movie Unbreakable!
I have a sudden curiosity about The Fifth Element now. :P
ReplyDeleteTHE 5TH ELEMENT was different because it is a European film :) I still wish someone else played Lilu and not horrid Milla. She is from my country, but she is still a bad actress :)
ReplyDeleteI do love the song from Diva Plava Laguna in the film though :) She is called Plava Laguna because that is the Serbian title of BLUE LAGOON, Milla's old film.
The song sequence is sheer brilliance. Good to know those extra little details about it.
DeleteI love Firefly! And Serenity. Although, you may be saving that for S. I haven't played Farmville (thank goodness) because I would have become addicted I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I never started to play any Facebook games. haha. I spend enough hours as it is watching Firefly. hehe. Yeah, love that show, and the Fifth Element is awesome too!
ReplyDeleteI never played Farmville. I heard about it a lot. I can imagine it's addictive.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Both The Fifth Element and Firefly were excellent. Since I'm not of FB I've never played Farmville. However I do sneak in an occasional game of Bejeweled....
ReplyDeleteBejeweled is another horribly addictive game... sigh ;)
DeleteI've heard a lot of good things about 'Firefly.'
ReplyDeleteFor me, Firefly is all about the characters. I think you'd like it.
DeleteTwo favorite movies we bought involve Spain: One is La Lenqua de las Mariposas (The tongue of the butterflies); it's in Spanish, but has English subtitles, and is about the Spanish Civil War and the way it affected the area of Spain we go to (Galicia); the other is in English: The Way, starring Martin Sheen and directed by his son Emilio Estevez, about the pilgrim's route to Santiago. Both are lovely films worth seeing. The most recent film I've seen that I WANT to buy is Quartet. (I posted about it on my 4th Wish blog a couple of days ago. It's about opera singers, but very funny and also very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of any of these. They sound wonderful, though so I'll have to keep an eye out for them.
DeletePS: That's "lengua", not "lequa". Sorry, my fingers sometimes can't spell. :-)
ReplyDeleteFuturama is another great F series. Got to say I never understood Farmville though my wife used to play it all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis is the second mention of The Fifth Element today. I guess I have to order it on Netflix and see it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, love, love THE FIFTH ELEMENT, as well as FIREFLY. Great "F" movies!! I've never been interested much in little distraction games though, except way back when we first got our computer and I played a few.
ReplyDeleteI used to be addicted to farmville, but i've kicked the habit. :D
ReplyDeleteFifth Element is such a cultural icon in my circle of friends we often throw out a quote from it--kind of like an inside joke.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smiles:)

I've never played Farmville for the sole reason that I knew I would get addicted. Lately I've been totally distracted by mindless games of Bejeweled. It's terrible because I'm feeling overwhelmed with work and yet I keep playing that silly game.
ReplyDeleteFirefly is on my "to watch" list, I never saw it when it aired but I've heard nothing but great things about it.
Loved the Fifth Element and Firefly. Hate Farmville.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to admit that I only recently watched Firefly (within the last year) on Netflix but I did love it and the Serenity movie that went with it.
I hate Farmville but I have never actually played it. I just don't play any games on Facebook and Farmville annoyed me because it came out before you could block games so I was constantly getting requests for it.
I've never played Farmville or any FB games. I really don't want to start!
ReplyDeleteLOL - We have no Fs in common. I don't know the movie, never heard of the tv show before today when I saw on another F post, and I don't play FB games. Fun to visit anyway.

Loved Firefly and Fifth Element both. Thankfully, I've never played Farmville. I've found it easier to prevent an addiction than breaking one.
ReplyDeleteGood choices, love both the movies.
ReplyDeleteFifth element has to be one of my all time faves. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteI feel very out of the loop. I've never seen the movie or the television show . I'm now extremely curious to rent. The Fifth Element. Alex posted about it as well. I never played FarmVille but I was addicted to mafia and words with friends , but I've kicked both habits .
ReplyDeleteHi, Lynda,
ReplyDeleteNever played Farmville, but for a time, everybody was farming on FB.
I am NOT allowed to play games on FB because I get too easily addicted (I kid you not) lol. I don't mind though as I get distracted by anything else that's bright and oh look shinny...great post and I love Firefly and the Fifth Element was awesome.
ReplyDeleteFirefly! Oh how I loved that show. Closet brown coat here. Yeah their Chinese hillbilly dialogue was pretty awesome.
