Because I'm in the middle of the frantic craziness that is NaNoWriMo (writing 50k words during the month of November), I thought I'd bring you something a little different for the Insecure Writer's Support Group: a comic strip I drew while taking a break from writing and outlining (click on the image to see it larger).
Can you relate to that aspect of the many faces of writers? Whether you're doing NaNo or not, how is your writing coming along so far this month? Hit any speed humps yet?
If you'd like hook up with me as a NaNo writing buddy, I'm in as LynFaw.
The Insecure Writer's Support Group is the love-child of Alex J Cavanaugh. We post on the first Wednesday of every month. Everyone is welcome and it's free to join. Sign up HERE.
Our website also includes a database of databases of helpful links for writers both new and established.

I would also like to feature Melanie Schulz's new release, The Bashan Agenda.
The Newstead Trilogy is one story in three parts, The Bashan Agenda, part two, picks up right where The Newstead Project left off. Nathan's truck eventually stops in the small town of Wilson, NY, and Rachel's still in it, not that she wants to be. But she figures at least in Wilson she'll be able to have a fresh start. She forgot one thing: they can be anywhere. As Joel trains with his father, doubts begin to rise in his mind. Is he really who he claims to be- and more importantly does he have an agenda all his own? When the maps to Bashan come out, Joel realizes maybe it's not such a good idea to be putting so much trust in one man.
The Bashan Agenda is available on:

Lol, I think every writer will relate to that one!
ReplyDeleteHey Lynda, I just 'buddied' you! And yes, I totally get that comic skit. I've been there so many times I feel like a yo-yo!
ReplyDeleteYay for buddies. You appear to be steam rolling through your word count. Go you!!
DeleteDefinitely something I can relate to and love the comic Lynda. Added you as buddy and congrats to Melanie on her new book.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sheena-kay :)
DeleteCongrats to Melanie.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely I relate.
You drew that comic? Wow! It's totally professional - and really funny. Good luck on NaNo, and congrats to Melanie. :-)
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. I was a little worried about posting it because it's not one of my smoothest works. We're always our own worst critics, ha. ;)
DeleteYou are very talented! Although I don't think I'm ever that first person. Second person, yes.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Melanie!
Can so relate to this. Good luck with NaNo.
ReplyDeleteExcept mine is losing his hair from being pulled out. Love the strip. You are quite talented, Lyn, and I'm more impressed with you every day. Well, at least every other day. ;)
ReplyDeleteM.L. Swift, Writer
haha yes, I was going to draw the pulling of the hair but I had limited time and I'm hopeless at drawing hands ;)
DeleteYou draw too? Wow!! Yes I do relate!!
ReplyDeleteIt used to be that when I wasn't writing, I was drawing. Then I got into photography (probably because drawing takes almost as much time as writing but taking a photo is quick but just as satisfying).
DeleteI love it! Think I'd be curled up in a ball under the table though.
ReplyDeleteYou are multi-talented! I laughed out loud at your cartoon. So funny and so true. We writers are a mess.
ReplyDeleteI saw Melanie Schulz's book on another blog the other day. I love her cover!
Good luck with NaNo!
I just knew you wear fluffy slippers at home :)
ReplyDeleteActually, my hubby bought me a new pair of cow slippers just yesterday :)
Deletelol that comic sure sums it up
ReplyDeletelol, that's so true! Only a lot of the time I'm freaking out about my novels even in public :) Best of luck with NaNo!!
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to this comic, although I struggle even managing that public face LOL. And I'm impressed with your drawing, you're definitely multi-talented!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNo!
Love the comic strip - pretty much sums up how I feel right now! Good luck with NaNo - I've fallen behind with mine already!
ReplyDeleteNoooo!! You can catch up. I spent a four day weekend with hubby and I fell behind as well, but yesterday I put my head down and caught up. I surprised myself.
DeleteHi Lynda. Cool comic strip, it made me grin. My public face is pretty much the same as the private; neither face illustrates much confidence and both are pretty frazzled! Fortunately, I'm rarely in public so that helps :)
ReplyDeleteshahwharton.com
Lyn, are you by any chance a mind reader? You have drawn the state of my mind so accurately.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell anyone, but yes, I am a mind-reader... muwhahahaha.
DeleteWow, your comic is so CUTE! Love the details--fluffy slippers, crumpled paper on the floor, cute smooth legs, especially on the first gal. :) Great job. I think we as writers can all relate to those public and private faces!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. I was a little rushed, but it was fun to draw.
DeleteYou draw comics! I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove it!!
ReplyDelete(I especially like her fluffy slippers.)
I've only drawn three comics in my life, this being the third. The first one was done in my teens and it was a silly strip about my brother and his chemistry set. The second one started as a storyboard for an animation. The animation didn't end up happening (I had all sorts of rendering problems with the shadows etc) so I thought I'd simplify it and turn it into a comic strip. I'm still polishing that one and I hope to share it one day.
DeleteSo wish I could draw. This is perfect! I'm doing nano as well (just added you--I'm solstice1974) and I made it 5 days before hitting my first speed bump. Writing the first draft is the hardest for me because I know it's crap. Nano is great for helping me push through it though, so good luck to both of us.
ReplyDeleteHa, I actually find writing the first draft easy precisely because I know it's crap. The crappiness doesn't matter and that gives me a freedom I don't have when I edit. Best of luck with NaNo!!!
DeleteSo cool, I didn't know you did comic strips:)
ReplyDeleteMelanie's cover is beautiful. Lynda, I'm inspired by your talent. No NaNo for me. Don't know how you ambitious writers do it. I have enough trouble keeping up with what I already need to do.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNo. What a challenge!
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing you draw comics! Good luck with Nano.
ReplyDeleteCute! And I AM a Gemini, so I'm allowed to have a split personality like that. But, yeah, that whole roller coaster ride of emotions is why you have to be tough to be a writer. Otherwise you'd throw up all over the place every time you sat at the keyboard. :P
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to Melanie. :))
I'm a Cancerian. Does that mean I have no excuse for having the split personality? ;)
DeleteI'm chopping chapters from my current WIP.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Melanie!
Sharing!
Hugs and chocolate!
I devoted an entire post to speed bumps. Yep. I know just what you're talking about...
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoon! I just started my new WIP yesterday. I had to finish the edits to my book 2 which is due Jan. I wanted to send to betas ASAP.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Lynda, with your NaNo project!
Thanks for the chuckle. I just saw myself in private face. In fact I always write first thing in the morning with my slippers and robe on...hahahaaa
ReplyDeleteThanks for the touch of reality and the laugh. I must say though, your private writer looks a lot better than mine...There are no tears and body shakes ;) . Good luck with NaNo!
ReplyDeleteHa! That can be me time to time.
ReplyDeletecomplete with pink fluffy slippers? ;)
DeleteThe comic strip expresses the feelings behind any creative endeavor. I am often haunted by inklings of self-doubt.
ReplyDeleteLee
Tossing It Out
Oh yeah, I absolutely relate! :D
ReplyDeleteLove that comic strip! You captured me so well. Lol
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Melanie!
Love the cartoon!! You're a multi-talented lady!
ReplyDeleteLoving NaNo too :)
That cartoon is perfect. Good luck with NaNo.
ReplyDeleteI think that cartoon describes me many times a day. Well done, Lynda!
ReplyDeleteI think the cartoon describes most of us! Good luck with your writing!
ReplyDeleteHi, Linda,
ReplyDeleteThat cartoon speaks volumes. You're one talented woman.
I hope Melanie's book is doing well.
I love that cartoon. It's too true!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Melanie!
You have even more talents, Lynda. I love that cartoon, and it's so dead on. Break a pen during NaNo!
ReplyDeleteI've managed to kill 3 pens so far. Um-ah.
DeleteBest of luck with NaNo!
ReplyDeletegood luck girl. nano is a butt kicker or so it seems. i'm not sure about the pic, it's missing one important factor....the whiney kids in the background!! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Lynda, I added you as a NaNo Buddy :)
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to these two writing faces! It's scary to think how much we can lack confidence in ourselves, yet still act so self-assured when other people are looking. You're a cool drawer, by the way! Thanks for sharing.
Added you back. I'm a bit behind after the weekend. Eeeeek! ;)
DeleteOh you've taken the plunge, eh?? Good for you. There's no way I could do it this month. But I'm all about writing a fast first draft and fixing it later. Sending you lots of creative mojo vibes! (and chocolate!) :D
ReplyDeleteMuchly appreciated! I'll need that chocolate today and loads of creative mojo vibes today while I do some serious catchup.
DeleteWahoo for Melanie!
ReplyDeleteMy pom poms are out for you NaNo-ers. I'm with Pk. We're both in a whirlwind of crazy this month--but the good kind of crazy. (See exhibit #1, aka, your cartoon.)
Good luck with NaNo. Hope you're having as much fun as I am. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Melanie!
ReplyDeleteLove the comic strip and I can totally relate!
I love your cartoon and can sure relate to it! Best wishes to you, Lynda.
